Polio Case Reported
Herald of Aug. 24, 1944
A third case of infantile paralysis or polio was reported in Martinsburg on Wednesday Afternoon.
The patient is little 3-year-old Robert Dubbs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Dubbs who occupy several rooms in the Reynolds dwelling at the northern end of North Market Street.
As a result of the discovery of this case, the community church schedule for the coming Sunday has been changed somewhat. Regular worship will be held but for adults only, the age limit being 18. The sunday school sessions will be eliminated.
The Roxy theatre, likewise, has made a change. The stated shows for Friday and Saturday will be held, but no young folks under 18 will be admitted.
It seems that the Dubbs child had not been feeling well for several days, and on Tuesday he was taken to the office of one of the local physicians, and the physician found that the child had symptoms of paralysis, but the disease had not advanced sufficiently to make a definite diagnosis.
Wednesday a physician visited and pronounced it infantile paralysis.
