JANET A. THOMPSON

Janet A. Thompson, 84, of rural Roaring Spring, passed away on Thursday morning, Aug. 22, 2019, at Great River Hospice House in Burlington, Iowa, losing her battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

A public graveside service was held Tuesday, Aug. 27, at East Sharpsburg Cemetery, rural Roaring Spring. Pastor David Rawley officiated.

Janet was born Sept. 18, 1934, and raised in Roaring Spring, the only child of the late Harold and Helen (Shoenfelt) Nickum.

She was married and divorced from Donald Paiva and also widowed from her second husband, Clifford Thompson.

Janet is survived by her son, John (Sabrina) Paiva of Burlington, Iowa; a granddaughter, Melissa (Joseph) Viviano of Huron, Ohio; three great-grandchildren: Joey, Christopher and Alessandra Viviano; and also her best friend and partner of eight years, Ralph H. Scruton.

She retired as a supervisor from the cosmetology department at the Altoona Vo-Tech. Janet loved teaching and her students.

Janet loved dogs and horses, spending many days trail riding with good friends, and also volunteering for "Dreams Go On," Hollidaysburg.

She was a beautiful, kind and caring person, with a zest for life. Janet was a talented painter and wood carver, who also enjoyed playing the piano, dulcimer, and many other instruments.

Janet loved RV-ing, traveling to Florida each winter, and making many new friends where ever she went.
