Community Fund Goals

Herald of Sept. 4, 1969

The goals for the community fund campaigns in Martinsburg and Roaring Spring this fall total $25,000. Roaring Spring has set its goal at $15,000, up $500 from last year. Martinsburg has set its goal at $10,000 the same as last year. In Roaring Spring the campaign is scheduled to begin next week with the industrial phase of the drive. In Martinsburg the fund drive will not start until the end of the month, when a kick-off dinner will be held. Both communities hope to complete the fund drive by the end of October.

Rain Wednesday morning dampened the back-to-school togs of 7,000 Cove area youngsters, but it didn’t seem to dampen their spirits as they returned to school for another term. Approximately 325 administrators and teachers in the four Cove area schools returned to their jobs a day early for inservice training programs and to prepare their classrooms. A few snags in bus schedules and in home room assignments cropped up as expected, but no serious problems were encountered, according to school officials of the districts.
