NB Defense Stellar in 47-6 Rout at Mo Valley

Northern Bedford’s defense paved the way for a 47-6 rout over the Moshannon Valley Black Knights on the road last Friday night, Sept. 6.

NB held Mo Valley standout running back Joe Bacher to just 25 yards and did not give up as much as a first down the entire evening. Bacher came into the game averaging 340 yards per game.

Coach Garry Black applauded his line play on both sides of the ball and pinpointed senior leaders Luke Welsh and Steven Kline for their leadership.

“Our line paved the way on both sides of the ball,” Black said. “We caused a lot of problems with our blitzes and schemes on defense.

“Kainen Brown had a great game and seemed to be where he needed to on every play."

Brown had a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown early in the second period that put NB up 21-0 en route to a 35-0 halftime lead.

A Thad Leidy to Brady Clark 9-yard touchdown pass opened things up for the Panthers. NB took the opening kickoff and drove 85 yards in just eight plays. Clark, who had 104 yards receiving, caught a second touchdown from Leidy on the next Panther possession, this time it was a 47-yard pass catch-and-run to paydirt.

Brown's pick-six was followed up by a 12-yard touchdown pass from Leidy to Evan Clouse and a Dalton Smith 5-yard run to culminate the first half scoring. Evan Coffey hit on all five of his PAT kicks to set the halftime score.

Leidy had a big game at quarterback with a 15-for-22 pass record for 229 yards.

“It starts up front with our line protecting him and he puts the ball where he needs to for our speedy receiving corps,” Black said.

Dalton Smith got two second-half rushing touchdowns to finish the scoring for NB, while Mo Valley could only muster falling on a Panther fumble in the end zone with under three minutes left to play for their score.

The Panthers amassed 381 yards in total offense, most of that coming in the first half.

The 2-1 Panthers visit Tussey Mountain (3-0) for the annual “Backyard Brawl” Friday night, Sept. 13. Kickoff at Dick L. Hess Memorial Field in Saxton is set for 7 p.m.
