Dragons Fall to Bald Eagle

The Central Scarlet Dragon football team traveled to Wingate last Friday, Sept. 20, to battle Bald Eagle Area in a key match-up with league and district impacts. BEA entered the game with a 3-1 record while Central was a game behind at 2-2.

Defense owned the opening half in the Class 3A battle as the only score occurred when BEA recovered a Dragon fumble in the end zone and led 8-0 at intermission.

After the break, Bald Eagle got its offensive game going and continued to play well defensively. BEA scored twice in the third quarter and added a fourth touchdown midway into the fourth to lead 29-0. The Dragons connected on a 39-yard scoring play from Jeff Hoenstine to Braden Kitt to stave off the shutout.

For the game, BEA had a 312-161 edge in total yards. Kitt connected on 11 of 16 passing attempts for 81 yards while Hoenstine hit 7-of-12 for another 73 yards.

Ben Smith was the leading rusher with 19 yards on six carries. Hoenstine had five receptions for 29 yards, while Kitt caught three passes for 51 receiving yards.

“BEA is a well-balanced team. They are strong defensively and on offense they can run and throw the ball equally well. As a team, our goal is to get to where they are.”
