Faith Assembly Hosts RESET Sunday

October 3, 2019

Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, was a date that the congregation at Faith Assembly of God in Roaring Spring patiently waited all year.

Pastors and church leaders have been attending conferences, workshops and meetings learning about the Acts 2 church and how it will be implanted into Faith Assembly. During the year, the congregation heard “snippets” of those meetings providing the church with excitement, questions and direction for the future of the church.

Finally, Pastor Del Smith, lead pastor of Faith Assembly, announced that date would be RESET Sunday and encouraged the congregation – past and present – to attend and hear the vision. The normal Sunday schedule would deviate by cancelling 9:30 a.m. Sunday school and invited everyone to be greeted in the Kids Zone area for drinks, coffee, donuts and fellowship.

The chatter and laughter of fellowship carried into the sanctuary where worship began with songs of praise prior to hearing Pastor Smith deliver the RESET message on “The Vision.”

Pastor Smith presented a brief 87-year history of Faith Assembly of God church. He specifically commented on the 17 weeks of revival that occurred during the summer of 2001 which resulted in a tremendous growth in the church.

Pastor Smith delivered the vision for the church being that missions is the destination, vision is the pathway and goals are the steps.

The mission as a church is to be a God-centered Bible people focused caring body of believers, led by the Holy Spirit in worshipping, serving, sharing Christ, and equipping believers to carry out the Great Commission in our community and throughout the world.

The vision to reach people for Jesus, Pastor Smith said we will be a warm and welcoming family committed to developing Christ-followers who LEARN about Christ, LOVE others like Christ, LIVE in Christ and LEAD others to Christ.

The goals are to be a connective church, with faithful disciples who are servant leaders, forming better communities while being fully engaged.

As always, the message was backed with scriptures throughout and delivered with encouragement to proceed with God’s plan.

As the service ended, the enthused congregation made its way to the picnic area where the church chefs were flipping hamburgers and hot dogs while the people placed their side-dishes and enjoyed a wonderful sunny day.

The children took advantage of the bounce house provided to expend all of their youthful energy.
