Dragons Dominate Huskies

October 10, 2019

The Central Scarlet Dragons returned home Friday night to battle Bishop Carroll (3-4). The Dragons raised their record to 4-3 with a dominating performance in all areas – offense, defense and special teams.

As has been in most of their games this season, the Dragons took advantage of their two quarterbacks as well as a stifling defense to pound their visitors, 34-0.

The Dragons got on the board twice in the first quarter as senior quarterback Braden Kitt connected with freshman Elijah Harbaugh on a 35-yard touchdown followed by a 25-yard touchdown by sophomore Josh Biesinger on a toss from freshman quarterback Jeff Hoenstine.

In the second quarter, Hoenstine raced 49 yards for a score to stretch the lead to 19-0 before Kitt hit Biesinger on a 23-yard aerial.

The teams played to a scoreless third quarter and early fourth until Hoenstine connected with Kitt on a 13-yard touchdown pass with four minutes remaining to set the final score.

For the game the Dragons had a huge 311-204 advantage in total yards. BC had a 166-131 advantage in yards on the ground, but the Dragons dominated the skies by a 180 to 38 edge.

Hoenstine finished with 61 yards rushing on just three attempts followed by Kitt’s 31 yards on eight carries. Kitt connected on 10 of 15 passes for 123 yards while Hoenstine added 57 yards on his five completions.

Bishop Carroll had three turnovers in the game while the Dragons played flawlessly. Bryer Colyer had an interception for Central and the team also recovered a pair of fumbles.

“We really controlled the game tonight. We played exceptionally well in all phases of the game,” Central coach Dave Baker said. “The offense was consistent and the defense made plays throughout the night. We won the turnover battle 3-0 and that’s normally a key sign in any game. It was perhaps our strongest game so far this season.

“Now we prepare for a powerful Bellefonte team this week.”

CHS will entertain Bellefonte (5-2) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the Roaring Spring Athletic Field.
