Daniel Girouard, Smith Transport's 2018 Driver of the Year, stands next to the company's 3,000th truck on Wednesday, Oct. 18, during a celebration at the Roaring Spring company. Smith Transport has almost 1,000 trucks between its four terminals. The terminals are located at Remington, Ind., Ellenwood, Ga., Washington, Pa., and Roaring Spring, home of the corporate office.

Barry Smith started Smith Transport in 1982 as a single driver with a dream to build a trucking company for drivers, according to Jen Hillegass, marketing brand manager for Smith Transport.

Today Smith Transport has almost 1,000 trucks between its four terminals. The terminals are located at Remington, Ind., Ellenwood, Ga., Washington, Pa., and Roaring Spring, home of the corporate office.

On Wednesday, Oct. 16, media got a firsthand look at this black truck with the number 3,000 number on it. It is the 3,000th truck that Smith has purchased over the last 27 years. The truck was viewed along with driver Daniel Girouard, the 2018 Smith Transport Driver of the Year. Corporate officers of Peterbilt Inc. and First-Class Magazine were present to do a cover story.

Dan and his wife, Karen, are celebrating 34 years of marriage and they have one daughter, Caitlyn. They own a beach home in South Kingstown R.I. He loves riding his Harley Davidson and he is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He attended Vincennes (Ind.) University, where he obtained an associate degree. He also attended Excelsior College, Albany, N.Y., and obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration. He retired from the U.S. Army in 2004. He is also a Golden Eagle Million Mile Member, and his safe miles as of Oct. 14 were 1,755,399.

The black truck was shined and glistened in the sun. Caleb Mayes and Travis Hughes stood by to reshine the truck if needed. These two men take great pride in keeping the trucks shined and explained they wash about 800 trucks a month.
