Putting cows on the front page since 1885.
Long’s Outpost has invited the community to its first Trunk or Treat Event Saturday, Oct. 26.
The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the New Paris store and from 5 to 7 p.m. at Martinsburg.
Non-religious groups as well as local churches in the community will come together at Long’s parking lot on Saturday. This will allow the children to trick or treat out of decorated trunks from local businesses.
Along with the Trunk or Treating there will be pumpkin decorating and children’s games available. Children may wear a costume if they like but certainly is not expected.
There will be prizes given for three best-dressed trunks.
Originally Trunk or Treat was started by church groups with the aim of providing a safer environment for trick-or-treaters on Halloween in the 1990s. Although trick or treat is well-known as an American tradition, it originated in medieval Europe.
Long’s Outpost is asking those who wish to participate in decorating a trunk to register in advance.
Participants may register online at longsoutpost@gmail.com or call 793-4930. Participants may take their vehicles to both stores.
