Armistice Celebration

November 7, 2019

Herald of Oct. 3, 1919

Roaring Spring and Morrison Cove is agog with excited expectation of the splendid and unusual features of the Armistice Day celebration to be held on Tuesday, November 11th, plans and preparations for which have been completed. Undoubtedly the largest crowd of people ever seen within the confines of the Cove metropolis will tax all accommodations to the utmost. Mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, sweethearts and friends will come from every nook and corner of Morrison Cove to see their soldier boys marching in the great parade of World War veterans.

Not since the days of ‘61 have we had an opportunity to see a parade of real soldiers, soldiers with the genuine martial air, soldiers who heretofore have done most of their marching not to the strains of a military band, but to the significant sibilance of singing steel: not upon the perfect level of the parade ground or even surface of paved streets under smiling cerulean skies, but through the cold and rain, mud and muck, under skies rent and torn with bursting shells.
