Sonja King Retires from Mutual Benefit Group

Sonja King of Huntingdon retired on Sept. 20 as a commercial lines fast-track underwriter with Mutual Benefit Group following a 29-year career in insurance.

A graduate of Altoona School of Commerce with an associate degree in management, King earned the following professional designations during her career with Mutual Benefit Group: Associate in Insurance Services, Certificate in General Insurance, Certified Insurance Service Representative.

Prior to joining Mutual Benefit Group, King was first employed as a waitress/cook with the Mark Eat Shoppe in Loysburg; served as clerk/temporary assistant manager of Dollar Bargain in Altoona; and was a computer operator for Barley & Hearn and CPA Associates of Huntingdon.

In 1990, King accepted a position as accounting assistant with Mutual Benefit Group, a post she held for 15 years. She went on to serve in a variety of roles at MBG, including finance assistant, compliance analyst, claims support supervisor and then in her most recent capacity as commercial lines fast-track underwriter.

King serves as junior graduate regent of the Women of the Moose Chapter 220, Huntingdon. She is also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Auxiliary and Home Association, Huntingdon; Mill Creek Fire Company, Mill Creek; and 12th Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon.

She has one son, Curtis King, a third-grade teacher at Ressie Jeffries Elementary School, Front Royal, Va.

King plans to fill her retirement by traveling, attending concerts, spending time with family and friends, and following/attending various college and professional sporting events. She also enjoys walking, reading, and listening to a variety of music.
