Update: Suspect Package Found at Airport Contained No Explosives

A suspicious package discovered at the Blair County Airport contained no explosives, according to State Police.

Emergency personnel were called to the airport at around 7 a.m. after the packages were discovered on airports second floor.

After a TSA scan showed possible explosive material, airport officials called 911. Local law enforcement and State Police arrived on the scene and evacuated the immediate area. A perimeter was set up to keep people a safe distance from the airport.

Trooper Joseph Dunsmore of the Hollidaysburg tate Police said the State Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene to evaluate the packages.

“The bomb squad unit determined there was no explosives in the packages,” Dunsmore said. “We are very fortunate there was nothing in them to cause harm to anyone.”

Dunsmore said the packages were removed from the building and the airport went back to normal operations.

Dunsmore said that although it is fortunate no explosives were found, it still had a negative effect.

“Obviously, it causes a substantial impact to the community,” he said. “It shut down the airport for hours for travelers, and obviously the concern for the citizens in the immediate area.”

Dunsmore said this is still an active investigation and police are working to identify whoever is responsible for leaving the packages.

“We are looking into what we can do to track down the individual or individuals who left the packages and why,” he said. “It is still an ongoing investigation, but as for the actual scene, it is clear and operating as normal.”
