Claysburg Community Theatre to Stage 'The Music Man'

Practice has been underway during the month of October and November with the Claysburg Area Community Theatre group on its latest production of "The Music Man."

The show is slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22 and 23, at the Claysburg-Kimmel High School auditorium.

The show is under the direction of Tom Ringler, the original director of CACT and one of the original organizers of it.

There's trouble in River City! When smooth-talking con man Harold Hill arrives in a small, tight-knit town in Iowa, he expects to dupe its residents with his elaborate moneymaking scheme: Despite his complete lack of musical literacy, he will convince everyone that he is a brilliant bandleader and recruit all the kids in town to form a band, pocketing the cash for instruments and uniforms.

The problem? Some of the town members, especially the stern librarian, Marian Paroo, don't quite buy Harold's story. As Harold struggles to keep his scheme afloat, he also finds himself increasingly attached to the townspeople, who have all experienced a positive change since Harold came to town. Complicating matters even more, Harold is also falling head-over-heels for the beautiful Marian. As All-American as apple pie and as charming as can be, The Music Man is a crowd-pleasing show with a great number and range of roles that is well-suited to professional, community, and school productions alike.

"The Music Man" has a very large cast and lead spots of Professor Harold Hill portrayed by Ted Fiess, Marian Paroo is played by Bethany Wicker and Marcellus Washburn is played by Jeremiah Oakes. There is a cast of more than 45 performers young and old, veteran performers and new performers alike.

Adding to the show and characters is a 16-plus member pit orchestra under the direction of Terry Hershberger with Earla Reffner on the keys playing piano.

Tickets will be available for purchase prior to show nights at C&S Market in Claysburg or by contacting the theater at CACT79@hotmail.com or via Facebook. Tickets will also be available at the door.
