MIRIAM S. ROYER

Miriam S. Royer, 98, of Martinsburg, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 14, 2019, at Homewood Retirement Center.

A service was held Monday, Nov. 18, at Bice Memorial Chapel at Homewood at Martinsburg. Pastor Traci Marriott Bowman and the Rev. Jerry McCuller Jr. officiated.

Private interment was held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

She was born April 12, 1921, in rural Martinsburg, daughter of the late Preston Cleveland and Fannie (Lehman) Smith.

She married Denver G. Royer April 19, 1944, in St. Matthew’s Church, Martinsburg. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2009.

Surviving are a niece, Laverne Fike, and a nephew, Preston Kephart.

Miriam was preceded in death by three sisters: Marjorie F. Smith, G. Evelyn Kephart and Belva S. Bartges.

She was a 1938 graduate of Morrison Cove High School, Martinsburg, and also received a business certificate from the Altoona School of Commerce.

Miriam retired as a secretary from Agway Eastern States, rural Williamsburg, following 40 years of service, and was previously employed for Ed H. Lykens Insurance, Martinsburg, Hershberger & Myers, Martinsburg, and the Blair County Courthouse Agricultural Conservation Office.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, where she participated in the adult choir.

Miriam was also a member of the North Woodbury Grange, and Hollidaysburg Chapter #471 Order of the Eastern Star.

She loved traveling with her husband, Denver, and more recently enjoyed taking long drives through the cove in her old green Ford pickup truck.

Memorial contributions in memory of Miriam can be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 115 E. Penn St., Martinsburg, PA 16662.
