The Blair County Commissioners held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Nov. 12 to celebrate the re-opening of Bridge 66, which crosses Clover Creek in Woodbury Township.
Featured in the celebration was the first vehicle to cross the bridge following the official opening – the Williamsburg Community School District bus assigned to the route.
The bridge superstructure replacement project involved removal of the existing laminated timber deck, steel railings, steel beams and concrete substructure caps, followed by construction of new concrete substructure caps and a new superstructure to carry T-454 over Clover Creek. The new structure will carry all legal loads, which allowed the former 6-ton weight restriction to be removed.
The county utilized Marcellus Legacy Funds to replace the structurally deficient bridge. This funding source, which is separate from general fund tax dollars, was created under Act 13 of 2012 to provide for the distribution of unconventional gas well impact fees. The impact fees are distributed to counties (proportionately based on population) and are to be used to fund the replacement or repair of locally owned, deteriorated bridges.
