A Cold Day For Hunting

Herald of Dec. 4, 1969

Wintry winds and subfreezing temperatures failed to dull the ardor of hundreds of deer hunters as the season opened Monday with a heavy harvest of bucks in the Cove region. In some sections of the valley, the kill was running higher than the big deer harvest of last year. The first two days of the buck season also were free of hunting accidents, but two men died of heart attacks in the Blue Knob region.

The Roaring Spring Borough Council in tentatively approving its 1970 budget Monday night announced that no increases in tax rates are planned.

The hearing on the petition contesting the election of George P. Replogle as Sheriff of Blair County has been advanced. The petition, filed by Attorney Alan Krier, on behalf of 36 taxpayers, alleges irregularities in methods used by election boards to count the ballots in six precincts. These included Taylor Township, Newry Borough and four districts in Altoona. Up to this point, however, the action by the plaintiffs does not call for the opening of the ballot boxes.
