The Northern Bedford School Board recognized two retired high school faculty members – Dale Batzel of Everett and Ross D. Miller of New Enterprise – with community service awards. Miller was a retired NB mathematics teacher and coach. Batzel was a retired guidance counselor, athletic director and coach.

The Garver Memorial YMCA in Roaring Spring was seeking support from residents and businesses in the Cove through its sustaining membership campaign. The goal for the upcoming year ad been set at $30,000.

Two Cove-area students were elected officers at the Region V Fall Leadership Workshop of Future Business Leaders of America at Tussey Mountain High School. Steven Haney, a senior at Williamsburg High School, was elected regional FBLA president. Valerie Holsinger, a senior at Northern Bedford High School, was elected to the office of regional secretary.

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg ranked the Williamsburg Lady Pirates No. 2 in the PIAA Class A in a recent preseason poll.
