The Pennsylvania State Police have released the results of its holiday traffic enforcement which took place between Nov. 27 and Dec. 1.
State Police investigated 1,116 crashes statewide, of which 73 were alcohol related.
State Police made 729 DUI arrests, which made for a 14 percent increase in the number of arrests for the same period last year, which netted 683 arrests.
Eight people were killed in seven crashes, doubling the total from last year’s enforcement period.
Crash-related injuries rose from 213 in 2018 to 247 in 2019.
Speeding citations were also up, with 14,028 issued compared to 13,863 last year.
Alcohol-related crashes were down slightly with73 compared to last year’s total of 80.
The statistics cover only incidents investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police.
