Lady Pirates Begin New Era with Victory

December 12, 2019

The Amy Hileman era at Williamsburg High School got off to a dominate start on Dec. 6.

Led by four scorers in double figures, the Lady Pirates cruised to a 71-24 road win at Harmony. WHS led 20-4 after one quarter and 39-14 at the break.

Jayla Woodruff hit three 3-pointers and poured in a game-high 22 points for Williamsburg. Kendel Norris added 12 points, while Marcella Lynn (two 3-pointers) and Madison Bem each contributed 10 points.

“It is great when you can start your season with a commanding win and build team confidence early,” Hileman said. “I am proud of our team effort and unselfish play. Two of our freshmen, Woodruff and Norris, led the way on points but overall each of our players contributed towards the win. We had four in double figures and our defense forced 32 turnovers. The girls came out ready to play and took control of the game early and never let up.”

Williamsburg, which played Claysburg-Kimmel on Dec. 10, will travel to Moshannon Valley on Dec. 13. The squad will visit Saint Joseph’s on Dec. 17 and Juniata Valley on Dec. 18.
