New Sheriff’s Plans
Herald of Dec. 23, 1969
On Jan. 5 a Roaring Spring man will be sworn into office as the first Democrat sheriff of Blair County in nearly 50 years. Although it will be quite a change, the Republican inhabitants of the courthouse should survive the shock because George Replogle plans no radical departures.
In fact, the present first deputy sheriff, Republican Frank Stonebraker, will stay on in his present capacity. The appointment of Mr. Stonebraker comes as no surprise to political observers, but Sheriff-elect Replogle denies emphatically that the first deputy’s job was promised before the election in exchange for Mr. Stonebrakers support.
Another deputy will be Mrs. Patricia Dorfmeister of Altoona, who is now a deputy and office girl under outgoing Sheriff Paul Reed. The third appointment has not been made official yet. The job has been offered to a Democrat who worked hard for Replogle’s election, but the Democrat has not yet accepted. If he declines, the job will probably go to a Republican, leaving Mr. Replogle in the political minority in his office.
