Weather, Fires Top News

Weather and fires dominated the news reported in the Herald during the past year. The weather stories focused on heavy snows and bitter cold that forced school cancellations.

The fires included the late July arson at a Smith Transport warehouse that caused more than $1 million damage. The same week the Cove Buggy Shop at Curryville burned to the ground, causing nearly a quarter-million-dollar loss. On top of these there were two major dairy barn fires during the year.

Other top news included revived activity on two projects that had been stalled for a number of years...
