Army Helicopter Stranded

Herald of Jan. 4, 1945

The army helicopter which had been storm-bound in Martinsburg since last Friday afternoon got away Wednesday afternoon, about the first nice day of the week. Hundreds of people of the community obtained an excellent view of the strange aircraft as it flew around low and maneuvered a short distance above the housetops. Lieutenant William Blair, the pilot, at times made the ship seem to stand still in the air. Lieutenant Blair sought refuge last Friday from the storm by landing the ship at the local airport.

Pvt. John Robert Morgan, aged 32, who prior to entering the service was a well known plumber of Martinsburg, has been missing in France since Dec. 15, the day of one of the big battles in connection with the German drive. A telegram from the war department was received late Friday evening by a brother, William E. Morgan of Curryville, who at once came to Martinsburg to notify his wife. Mrs. Morgan who lives on East Allegheny street is employed in Altoona and was not home at the time.
