Martinsburg Native Named As One of Top 100 NC Nurses

Sandy Waugaman, daughter of Bob and Pat Fleegle of Martinsburg, has been selected as one of the 2019 Great 100 Nurses in North Carolina.

Waugaman is a 1979 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg, and a 1983 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing.

She is currently part of the Critical Response Team at UNC REX Healthcare in Raleigh, N.C. She is chair of the Professional Development and Advancement for Nurses clinical ladder at UNC REX and actively involved in the Sepsis and Early Mobility programs at the hospital.

Waugaman is immediate past president of the Greater Raleigh Area Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and is currently serving as a chapter advisor for Region 5 chapters in North and South Carolina.

The Great 100 Inc. is a grassroots peer recognition organization honoring the nursing profession if North Carolina by:

• Recognizing the importance of registered nurses in diverse practice settings

• Positively impacting the image of nursing and nursing as a profession

• Acknowledging 100 North Carolina nurses annually who demonstrate excellence in practice and commitment to their profession

• Contributing funds for scholarships for registered nurse education
