Tea Party to Discuss Second Amendment Sanctuary

January 23, 2020

The Blair County Tea Party will discuss an effort to make Blair County a Second Amendment sanctuary at this month’s meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Bavarian Hall in Altoona (112 S. 13th St.).

The BCTP and other community groups will be circulating petitions in the coming weeks to put this question on the ballot. The BCTP had previously held a meeting on making Blair County a Second Amendment sanctuary in September and asked the candidates for county commissioner about it at an October forum.

In order to get the question on the ballot, supporters must get signatures totaling more than 5 percent of the last Gubernatorial vote. This would amount to more than 2,000 signatures. Volunteers will be needed to help circulate the petitions.

After briefly explaining the goal and what sanctuary status means, the BCTP will provide instruction on how to properly circulate the petitions so they can’t be challenged later. In order to be counted, all signatures must belong to people registered to vote in Blair County. There will also be information about registering to vote if you are not already registered.
