CHS Wrestlers Up Against Top Teams

The Central Dragon wrestlers battled a pair of Mountain League foes last week and also participated in the Thomas Chevrolet Tournament over the weekend.

Clearfield 56, CHS 14

On Jan. 21, the Dragons welcomed Clearfield and were defeated 56-14. Ian Couch, wrestling at 126, registered a fall in 2:58. Ethan Eicher won by decision (5-2) at 195. Tyler Biesinger (113) had a close 9-8 decision victory. Lane Kocher won by a 7-3 decision at 160.

Bellefonte 66, CHS 9

On Jan. 23, the team traveled to Bellefonte and fell 66-9. Again, Ian Couch had a fall – this time in just 1:07. Wrestling at 152, Tanner Hall had a 7-2 win.

In the weekend’s (Jan. 24-25) tournament action, the Dragons tied Everett for 19th place in a field of 29 teams. Placewinners for Central were Ian Couch (fifth), Jaxon Matthews (sixth) and Ethan Eicher (seventh).

Couch (120), had a 4-2 overall record including three falls. Eicher (182) was 3-2, while Matthews (106) was 4-3 with a pair of falls.

Other Dragon wrestlers with multiple wins were Tyler Biesinger, Michael Fowkes, Tanner Hall and Tyler Hess. All four wrestlers finished with 2-2 records. Hall and Hess pinned each of their men in the wins.

“We wrestled two powerful league opponents and then battled some of the better area teams in the tournament,” Central coach Dave Marko said. “It gives our guys a chance to see quality competition and see how they are measuring up. The postseason isn’t that far away.”
