New Church Opens

Herald of Feb. 2, 1995

Heritage Baptist Church in Martinsburg RD 2 opened its new church building for the first time on Sunday, Jan. 29. One hundred and sixteen persons were present for the first service, according to the Rev. Mark Biter, pastor. The new structure had a seating capacity of 200, compared to the former building, which Rev. Biter said could “squeeze in” up to 125. The cost of the new 70-x-37-foot brick structure was about $195,000 including furnishings, Rev. Biter said. Heritage Baptist began meeting in Duncansville in 1983 before moving to near Martinsburg in 1985.

Construction on Martinsburg’s new sewage treatment plant was 89 percent complete, the Martinsburg Municipal Authority learned at its Jan. 24 meeting. According to a consent order and agreement between the Department of Environmental Resources and the authority, the plant had to be up and running and meet DER’s effluent requirements by Feb. 23.

Robert Clark Jr. was named Claysburg’s Junior Fireman of the Year.
