New Wells on Horizon

Herald of Feb. 4, 2010

The Martinsburg Water Authority has received good news concerning the possibility of drilling two replacement wells with state funding.

In a Jan. 27 conference call with PennVEST and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), representatives for the entities “agreed [the project] is workable,” said Randy Stoltz, borough manager. “It looks like it’s a ‘go.’”

Martinsburg Borough Council members welcomed Dan Smouse to their table Monday evening. He fills the vacancy created when Rex Hartman resigned his seat to accept his elected position as mayor.

The former Roaring Spring Elementary School is likely to be torn down before spring arrives, according to school officials.

Spring Cove Superintendent Rodney Green, who attended the school, led the Herald on a walk through the 73-year-old building.

The Williamsburg Common-Unity Choir held its first practice Jan. 26.
