Claysburg Public Library Holds Successful Fundraiser

The Claysburg Area Public Library held its annual Gospel Sing/Soup Supper. on Saturday, Jan. 25.

A large crowd gathered at the Christ Lutheran Church in Claysburg for warm soup and warm company. The local churches and Friends of the Library provided five kinds of soup, relished, breads, beverages and desserts.

Music was provided by Gwen and Brian Burket (piano), All for Him (duet), Caleb Knisely (male vocalist), Mountain City Grass Band, Heidi Kennedy and the Claysburg Community Chorus.

The cost was a free-will donation to the Library. More than $1,300 was raised at the event.

Jane Knisely, library director, said the library would like to thank all who participated and all who came to the event.

The Claysburg Area Public Library recently obtained two hotspots for its patrons. Hotspots are convenient mobile internet services. They are available to the public for $15 for two weeks. The hotspots are serviced by T-Mobile. Funds for these devices came from the Claysburg Education Foundation.

“We have received more funding from the foundation for iPads and Osmo games which will soon arrive at the library,” Knisely said.

Osmo games are interactive games which teach in an entertaining way.

Is your New Year’s resolution to lose weight? The library has resources to encourage you in your effort. Knisely said the suggestion is to write down everything you eat.

“We have free journals to chart your progress. We also have books on nutrition, exercise and cookbooks,” Knisely said.

The library will hold a tea at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13. There will also be a tea cup candle craft. Call the Library at 239-2782 to reserve a spot at the table. Attendees will learn proper etiquette for teas and information on various types of tea.

Pennsylvania income tax forms and property rebate forms are available at the library. Federal tax forms are on their way. The library’s computers are also available to the public if they want to file online.
