FFA Holds Ceremony

Pvt. George B. Kelley, aged 23, whose home is a mile and a half west of Clappertown, was killed in action on Jan. 10, while fighting with the armies in Belgium.

FFA council, members and guests assembled at the Robert Smith high school for the annual award ceremony.

Sixty-nine district awards were presented on last season’s projects. Of this number twenty-eight were of the highest score or “excellent.” Thirty-eight placed second or “good”, and thirty-three rated third or “fair.”

The H.J. Heinz company will be able to use tomatoes grown from 800 acres in the farming area surrounding the Martinsburg receiving station, according to J. Franklin Beach of Woodbury, the local representative of the canning concern this year.

The first letter from the Philippines since the invasion by Gen. MacArthur’s forces was received at the Herald this week. The writer, T/5 Frank G. Amick, a Cove young man who belongs to a field artillery outfit. He thanks the community for the Christmas box received while in New Guinea.
