Central Girls Defeat Brookville

February 13, 2020

The Central Lady Dragons split two games last week, defeating Brookville in a non-league game before falling against league rival Tyrone. The split gave CHS a 15-5 record.

CHS 42, Brookeville 38

On Feb. 3, the Dragons visited Brookville, won the second quarter 11-4 and returned with a 42-38 victory.

The teams played evenly 14-14 in an entertaining first quarter before Central opened a seven-point halftime advantage.

Brookville carved four points off its deficit with a 12-8 third frame before the Lady Dragons won the final eight minutes 9-8.

Senior Kylie Metzger paced the Central offense with 12 points while Bailey Heuston added six.

Tyrone 47, CHS 44

On Feb. 7 the Lady Dragons traveled to Tyrone to battle the Mountain League leader (16-2 overall and 13-0 in the league) and returned with a tough 47-44 loss.

The Dragons played a solid opening quarter and led 13-11 but trailed 23-18 at the half. After shaving one point off its deficit in the third quarter, Central was able to even the score at 39 with three minutes remaining. The Lady Golden Eagles were able to outscore the Lady Dragons 8-5 down the stretch to record the win.

Kylie Metzger again had a huge game, scoring 20 points (8-of-11 at the line) and snaring 13 rebounds. Fellow senior Erin Brumbaugh added 14 points and Bailey Heuston eight.

“We had two tough games on the road, which will hopefully benefit us as we soon enter the playoffs,” Central coach Rob Mock said. “Brookville has a nice team and of course Tyrone is undefeated in our league. We had a good chance to win but they made the plays down the stretch. We may get another shot at them in districts.”
