School on Saturday

This coming Saturday will be a school day for a large number of boys and girls of the Cove to make up one of the days lost because of the blizzards. In most of the schools, six days were lost. The Taylor township schools lost seven days in all.

The need for salvaged paper is so gret that another date has been set by the local Boy Scouts to canvass Martinsburg in an effort to gather the largest amount possible to aid in the war effort.

For heroism in the line of duty, Lt. Cora L. Defibaugh of Waterside, was decorated with the Air Medal, for “courage and devotion to duty” in a ceremony at headquarters. Lt. Defibaugh is a flight nurse in a 13th AAF air evacuation squadron.

Norbert E. Rhodes, the Royer young man who has been a prisoner of the Germans since May 1, is permitted to write home once a month. The soldier was not permitted to say much. He could not tell where he was located. He stated that he was in good health and asked his parents not to worry. The letter written Sept. 9 was received Jan.23.
