Eight Area Wrestlers Qualify for Regionals

Eight wrestlers from the Morrisons Cove area have qualified for this weekend's Southwest Regional Class 2A Tournament at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Northern Bedford will send four wrestlers to regionals, while Central and Claysburg-Kimmel will each send two.

Action will begin Friday, Feb. 21, and conclude Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex.

District 5 Class 2A

Northern Bedford competed in the District 5 Class 2A Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Richland High School, Johnstown. As a team, the Panthers finished sixth in the 10-team field with 75 points.

Colby Imler, wrestling in the 170-pound bracket, earned a 4-1 decision over Meyersdale's Drake Gindlesperger in the championship bout.

Reyan Imler (106 pounds), Ian Sherlock (138) and Derek Beach (285) each earned third place in their respective weight classes.

Imler was a 3-0 winner over Tussey Mountain's Trevor Husick in the battle for third place. Sherlock edged Chestnut Ridge's Trevor Weyandt, 6-4, while Beach pinned Somerset's Donovan Vogt at the 1:12 mark.

NB's Dakota Korzec fell one place shy of advancing to the regional tournament. He finished fourth when he was pinned in 51 seconds by Bedford's Cooper Lingenfelter.

Chestnut Ridge won the team title with 219.5 points, well ahead of runner-up Bedford, which finished with 136 points.

District 6 Class 2A

Central and Claysburg-Kimmel each competed in the District 6 Class 2A Tournament held Feb. 14-15 at Altoona Area High School. The Dragons placed 15th in the 26-team field with 72.5 points, while the Bulldogs scored 49 points and placed 19th.

Central's Jaxon Matthews was runner-up at 106 pounds. Bald Eagle Area's Coen Bainey pinned Matthews in 19 seconds in the championship bout.

Ian Crouch placed third at 120 pounds for the Dragons. He earned a 5-3 decision over Tyrone's Ashton Sipes in the bout for third place.

C-K's Kobe Harr and Cade Keithley placed third and fourth at 160 and 138 pounds, respectively.

Harr dropped a 3-2 decision to Bishop McCort Catholic's Ethan Marcozzi in the third-place match, while Keithley scored a 4-0 decision over Forest Hills' Dustin Finn in the fifth-place match.

Glendale won the team title with 175.5 points, ahead of runner-up Bald Eagle Area, which finished with 164.5 points.
