Dan Hoover to Speak to Blair Genealogical Society

The Blair County Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, at the Roller Hojeth Memorial Library, 431 Scotch Valley Road, Hollidaysburg.

The speaker will be Daniel Hoover, chairman/CEO of Roaring Spring Blank Book Co. He will talk about D.M. Bare, the early years, his move to Roaring Spring in 1861 (then called Spangs Mill), the businesses he started during his years there, and the impact on the community then and now.

Hoover is a 1970 graduate of Juniata College in Huntingdon with a BS in economics/business administration. He is a member of the Board of Directors for Child Advocates of Blair County, Grantee for the Blair County Head Start Program since 1983 and currently board chairman. He is a member of the Board/Executive Committee for Altoona Blair County Development Corp. since 1983, a member of the Pennsylvania Early Learning Investment Commission, a member of the Board of Directors at Homewood of Martinsburg, and a member of the Advisory Board of Canary Labs, Martinsburg.

He has been married to Cindy since 1971. They have two sons and seven grandchildren.
