Wrestlers Compete at Hershey

Central High School had a faculty-student sendoff for wrestler Jaxon Matthews (left) on Wednesday, March 4. Matthews was on his way to the PIAA Wrestling Championships in Hershey. The championships were held March 5-7 at the Giant Center.

Three Morrisons Cove-area wrestlers competed at the PIAA Class 2A Championships that were held March 5-7 at Hershey's Giant Center.

Northern Bedford's Colby Imler and Ian Sherlock competed in the 170- and 138-pound weight brackets, respectively, while Central's Jaxon Matthews competed at 106 pounds.

Imler won his preliminary matchup, a 10-7 decision over Susquenita's Michael Klinger. Imler then was pinned by Montoursville's Cael Crebs at the 3:24 mark of the Championship Round 1. Imler rebounded with a fall against Quaker Valley's Austin Pantaleo in 2:24 of the Consolation Round 2. Imler then lost by technical fall (16-1, 2:07) against Southern Columbia's Cade Linn.

Sherlock lost a 4-3 decision in the preliminaries to Mifflinburg's Clayton Reed. Sherlock rebounded in the Consolation Round 1 as he pinned Lake Lehman's Zack Stuart at the 2:33 mark. Sherlock's season came to an end as he was pinned by Biglerville's Blake Shoers in 4:10.

Matthews was pinned by South Williamsport's Robert Gardner (4:29) and Corry Area's Lucas Munsee (2:25).
