Farmers Caught By Scam

Some area farmers were caught in a billboard privilege racket. They were asked to allow painters to place a sign on their fence for a few dollars to guarantee them that no one else would be permitted to paint a sign over their sign. The farmer then was asked to sign a receipt that the painter could turn over to his employer. The receipts have turned out to be promissory notes for amounts of $200 or $500.

Many cases of scarlet fever were reported throughout the state.

Thomas Imler opened a hotel in Claysburg.

Frank K. Moses of Kings Township, Bedford County, harvested and put in storage almost a thousand bushels of winter apples. Selling some of them recently, one bushel of apples brought the price of three bushels of wheat.

An effort was being made by some of the citizens of East Freedom to have that community incorporated as a borough.

The Huntingdon Presbytery was planning to celebrate its 100th anniversary with a program April 9 in Huntingdon.
