The Williamsburg Lady Pirate basketball team hammered District 7 champion Monessen, 82-39, to advance to the state’s Class A “Final Four.” Williamsburg (29-1) was scheduled to play Saegertown (30-0) in the Western Finals on March 22 at Clarion University.

Richard K. McGraw and son Steven R. McGraw offered the successful bid for purchase of the United Methodist Church property at 202 S. Market St., Martinsburg. The new owners were considering plans for the brick and stone building, remodeled several times throughout its more than 100-year history. The owner planned to give back to the congregation the separate window panels that had the names of window donors or those persons in whose memory the windows were provided.

Construction was nearly completed for the Food Lion shopping mall near Roaring Spring. Greencastle Development Co. of Annapolis, Md., was building the $2.5 million shopping center. Crews from Food Lion, Thrift Drug and Family Dollar were working on the inside of the space they would occupy.
