Schools Providing Meals for Students

Series: Coronavirus | Story 70

The Spring Cove School District began providing free lunches to any child age 18 or under (including preschoolers and toddlers) at three outdoor locations across the district on Monday, March 23.

These locations are Martinsburg Elementary School, Spring Cove Elementary School and the Milky Way on Dunnings Highway in East Freedom.

The children must be present to receive a meal. No adult meals and no meal choices will be offered. Meals may be acquired by “drive-through” or “walk-up” on Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“People are reminded to practice social distancing when picking up meals,” Superintendent Dr. Betsy Baker said. “No loitering, gathering, or socializing may occur. Meals may not be eaten on site.

“For the health and safety of your children, our Food Service staff are being directed to keep the Grab-and-Go Lunch program moving quickly, so please do not engage them in conversations.”

Claysburg-Kimmel

On Tuesday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 7, “grab and go” meal bags will be available for pick up at Claysburg Kimmel Elementary School and Claysburg Kimmel High School from 9:30 a.m. To 11 a.m.

C-K Elementary distribution will be at the front of the building. C-K high school distribution will be behind the school, facing the football field.

Parents can choose either site regardless of what building their students attend. Each meal bag will contain 10 meals: five breakfasts and five lunches.

Meal bags will be available to all Claysburg Kimmel School District students and any siblings under the age of 18. Meals must be consumed off-site.

More info can be found on school district Facebook pages and websites.

All districts asked those bringing children to remember to practice “social distancing” to limit the potential spread of the virus. That means staying six feet away from other people.

Districts also said that no loitering or gathering will be permitted at the meal distribution sites.
