Blair Sports Hall of Fame Ceremony Postponed

The Blair County Sports Hall of Fame’s 19th banquet and induction ceremony, scheduled for May 2, has been postponed until Jan. 23, 2021, due to the coronavirus. The hall’s board of directors made the decision.

“The board felt we no choice,” Hall of Fame president Neil Rudel said. “Our focus is with everyone who has been touched by this virus and the stress it has caused.”

Rudel said January was selected to “hopefully provide enough recovery time” while also seeking an available date for guest speaker Doug Flutie, who remains committed.

Set to be inducted include John Hayes (football), John Lingenfelter (auto racing), Eric Malone (watercraft sports), Eddie Miller (basketball) and Tawney Nardozza Schmitt (swimming).

The team inductee is the 1970 Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic boys basketball team. Julie Roseborough, who started the Bellwood-Antis girls’ track program and has been coaching at B-A for 57 years, will receive the hall’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Questions can be directed to Rudel at nrudel@altoonamirror.com or Kathy Millward at kmill305@aol.com or (814) 312-0151.
