Herald of May 17, 1945

Pvt. John Robert Morgan, former Martinsburg plumber who the latter part of December was reported as missing in action in France, has been a prisoner of the Germans, and on Feb. 22 was still confined to a prison camp somewhere in Germany.

The news was contained in a card received by his brother in Curryville, but the card was dated Feb. 22.

T.M. Settle is tearing down the old stable at the rear of the Bonebreak property on East Allegheny Street. The building was 36 feet long and 20 feet wide and the timbers are solid oak. In order to save the siding it was necessary to cut the nails as they could not be pulled out.

Sergeant Blair E. Stevens, 22 of New Enterprise, who during the fighting in France and Germany, was twice reported missing and who had escaped from a German prison camp, spent Tuesday night at New Enterprise.

A number of fresh air children from New York City are to be brought to Martinsburg and vicinity during the summer.
