Woodbury Borough's Mayor Position Remains Open

Woodbury Borough Council met on Monday, May 4, at the Woodbury Area Community Center.

All members utilized social distancing throughout the meeting.

The office of mayor remains vacant. Two candidates are expected to attend the June council meeting.

The Woodbury Area Community Center roofing project is complete. Initially, this was a project that was to take five years of savings and fundraising to complete. However, James Beach, a neighbor to the center, left approximately $24,000 to be used for this project. It was assumed the burden to the borough and Woodbury Township (Bedford County) would be minimal.

Kenny Ott said that taxes were not paid out of the $24,000. They assumed the amount to be about $7,000. Since completion of the project, Ott said the borough would need to pay around $3,200 and the township the balance of $7,000. Ott said the township is looking into this matter to see if the center qualifies for tax exemption. American Roofing was paid partially and the additional $7,000 would need to be picked up by the borough and the township.

Discussion took place about the condition of garbage piling up at a rental property along Main Street. A letter was sent by the borough secretary with the copy of the ordinance to the party involved. A 30-day notice from the date of the letter for compliance is expected. After this time period the borough will clean up the property and charge $25 an hour to complete the cleanup.
