Lightning Strikes Steeple

The steeple of the Church of God in Martinsburg was struck by lightning and completely demolished during a terrific rain storm. The rafters and supports were shattered into thousands of pieces. The cupola was to be reconstructed but without the tail spire.

“Aunt” Peggy Stonerook was found dead in her bed at Woodbury by Dr. Berkheimer, who was summoned after she failed to respond when a neighbor boy took milk to her door. She was 71 and had never been married.

There was a heavy frost and snow in the air. Those who removed their flannels were regretting it.
