A citation for cruelty to animals was issued by Greenfield Township Police to Cynthia R. Ayers, 46, formerly of Left Hand Gap Road, Claysburg.
Back in early May, a neighbor contacted Greenfield Township Police to report hearing meowing and scratching coming from an apartment that had been previously rented by Ayers.
Chief Ron Sharkey and Officer Paul Guttshall, an officer from the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, visited the apartment and found it vacated.
Sharkey said that there was no food or water left for the two cats believed to have been locked inside.
The two officers were able to catch one of the cats. The other cat went into a hole under the bathtub and could not be found.
Sharkey said that the cat that was caught was mean and attributed it to the fact that the cat had not had food or water for an undetermined amount of time.
The neighbor was asked to contact either one of the officers should the other cat return.
The cat was taken to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, Altoona, by
Guttshall.
Officer Guttshall said that the cat is healthy and is building weight. Once the cat is ready, it will be re-homed. Call (814)942-5402 and speak with Theresa, the shelter manager, for more information.
A summons has been issued to Ayers by the office of Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger on the charge of cruelty to animals.
