"You're just an old fogey, Rich," the young fly-fisherman told me. "You need to get up to date on modern fly-fishing tactics."

The young man's comment was made to me not too long ago when we were discussing nymph-fishing techniques. He had told me that his nymphs' effectiveness was more than doubled by dipping his nymphs in a solution of scent.

"Why don't you just use live bait?" I blurted out. "That's what you're making your nymphs by dipping them into that gunk."
