'The Wall That Heals' in Bedford County July 23-26

To the Editor:

We are just one week away from bringing The Wall That Heals to Bedford County. This is an event you won’t want to miss.

I have included the complete schedule below and hope that you can join us.

Thank you to our main sponsors Fort Bedford VFW Post 7527, Bedford and Hyndman Family Health Center, and Maxwell Transportation. We appreciate all of the community support to make this event happen.

Escort

We will be bringing the Vietnam Veterans who appear on The Wall That Heals back home on July 21. The escort begins at 4 p.m. at the East St. Clair Township Building, 1445 Quaker Valley Rd, New Paris, Pa. 15554, and ends at the Bedford Middle School 440 East Watson Street Bedford, Pa., 15522.

Go to https://www.twthbedford2020.org/schedule

for the entire route and other information. We encourage veterans, community members, Boy Scout groups, organizations, etc. to wave American flags and to honor our Vietnam Veterans.

A flag arch will be provided by the Saxton and Bedford fire companies at the end of the route at the Bedford School District Track.

The Bedford County Honor Guard will be present at the end of the route to welcome the fallen Vietnam Veterans home. We encourage the public to join them.

July 22-26

On July 22, volunteers will spend all day setting up The Wall That Heals. Setup is expected to conclude at approximately 2 p.m. At that time, The Wall will be available for viewing, from July 23 to 26, 24 hours a day, closing Sunday, July 26 at 2 p.m.

During that time span, anyone who wants to can view The Wall That Heals, the mobile education center, and can conduct name rubbings.

Trained staff from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund will be on-site to provide free educational tours of the exhibits.

Honors Ceremony

On July 25 at 10 a.m. at the event site, we will give our Vietnam service members the honor that they deserve with our honors ceremony.

You will hear from local Vietnam Veteran and author Larry Garlock, Bill Mock, Jim Harsock, and sister of fallen Vietnam Veteran Roger Guy Holler, Vicki Smith. Music will be provided by Route 869.

We will provide hand sanitizing stations and take other steps to maintain the safety of volunteers, staff, and the public.
