Herald of July 23, 1970

The Loysburg Post Office was scheduled toi be moved to a new location after 30 years in its present quarters. Aug. 1 had been set as the tentative opening date for the new post office in the building formerly occupied by Steele’s Store, next door to the present post office building,

The only charter member of the Martinsburg Fire Company who was still active was honored by the Allied Volunteer Firemen’s Association of Blair County. Luke Stern of Martinsburg was presented the association’s “Fireman of the Month” trophy.

Streets were flooded and trees were uprooted during a severe electrical storm Sunday, July 19, in the Roaring Spring area. More than an inch and a half of rainfall was recorded during the storm by the Waste Treatment Plant of Combined Paper Mills Inc.of Roaring Spring.

A decision to continue to operate the Martinsburg Community Fund as a community project rather than to become a part of the Central Blair County United Fund was approved by the Martinsburg Community Guidance Council.
