PennDOT States that Roundabouts Increase Safety, Reduce Accidents

This map shows one option for the realignment of the intersection of State Routes 164 and 36 in Roaring Spring borough. This option involves the installation of a roundabout, which is a traffic routing system in which traffic moves in one direction around a central island to reach one of the roads converging on it. Roundabouts avoid the use of traffic signals, which force traffic to stop and start. Roundabouts allow traffic to keep moving but involve lane-changing and can be confusing to drivers who are not familiar with them.
