Sinking Valley to Hold Community Days Through Saturday

Sinking Valley Community Days began Wednesday, Sept. 16, and will continue through Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Sinking Valley Fair Grounds in the Skelp area of Blair County.

Due to state regulations, the 2020 Sinking Valley Farm Show was cancelled. In order to give the community the opportunity to still get together while allowing for social distancing, Sinking Valley Community Days was organized with no admission fees.

The Fair Grounds will be open from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. During this time, food vendors will serve daily soup and sandwich specials, taco salads, wings and much more. A variety of crafters, vendors, and local businesses will be spread out throughout the two buildings to allow for social distancing.

Each day will bring a variety of activities. Spacious seating and sanitizing stations will be available, but visitors are welcome to bring their own chairs as well.

From 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday Chris Woodward and the Shindiggin Band will be featured. Local musicians The Steinbeisers and Friends will be on the stage from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. In addition, there will be a pedal tractor contest for kids ages 3-8.

The week will conclude on Saturday. A tractor trot will feature a parade of antique and classic tractors leaving the grounds at 9am, traveling through Sinking Valley and returning to the Fair Grounds at noon. A mini tractor-pulling contest will begin at 1 p.m. featuring the Allegheny Tractor Pullers. A chicken dinner will be held from noon to 2 p.m.

The week will conclude with a free concert from 3 to 6 p.m. by Walkney featuring Derek Mrdjenovich. Derek is a local performer, has toured nationally and appeared on the show American Idol.
