National Newspaper Week is being observed this week. The theme is “American Newspapers – 200 Years of Freedom – 1770s to 1970s.”

“We must never forget Freedom of the press is essential of the freedom of our country,” said Donald S. Taylor, president of the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers’ Association.

Taylor, who is president of the Bethlehem Globe-Times, predicted the progress of our country over the past 200 years would continue “as long as the press keeps its freedom and lives up to its great responsibility.”
