Williamsburg Borough Will Demolish West First Street Property

A public meeting was held before the Monday evening, Oct. 5, Williamsburg Borough Council meeting regarding a property on West First Street.

One side of the residential property, has been condemned. The other side is being lived in by Robert Loucks Jr., who was present at the meeting.

Over the past several months, borough council and Trina Illig, the Community Block Grant (CDBG) program administrator, have been working on what to do with the property.

Following a brief public comment period, council announced that the condemned side of the structure will be demolished at a later date.

Dave McFarland of the Blair County Planning Commission discussed with borough council the preliminary comprehensive plan. He strongly urged council to update the borough’s zoning ordinance. McFarland also wanted members of the community to comment on the proposed comprehensive plan. Any borough resident willing to be part of the public-comment group is urged to contact the Williamsburg Borough office.

Williamsburg Borough will be participating in Trick or Treat. Trick or Treat will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, at the same time as the standard time and date set for Blair County. In the past, Williamsburg Borough has set its own Trick-or-Treat date, but for the last few years has adopted the countywide schedule.

Borough officials urged parents of trick-or-treaters to consider wearing a mask and remaining as socially distant as possible, along with taking hand sanitizer for use between the stops.

At last month’s meeting, council discussed moving the borough’s noise ordinance limit from 11 p.m. to earlier. Mayor Ted Hyle said that he is still checking into the matter and complaints. No further discussion was held on the matter.
