CKSD Returns to Hybrid Plan Following COVID-19 Increase in Blair County Cases

The Claysburg-Kimmel School District has shifted back to its hybrid model that it had started the 2020-21 school year with.

The scheduled days off for students at the secondary level, which began Nov. 2, is determined by their last name:

• A-Cla – Off Mondays (virtual day)

• Cle-G – Off Tuesdays -(virtual day)

• H-Ma – Off Wednesdays (virtual day)

• Mc-Ri – Off Thursdays (virtual day)

• Ro-Z – Off Fridays (virtual day)

The elementary school returned to its hybrid plan Monday, Nov. 9. Students in kindergarten through third grade attend school every day the district is in session.

In grades four through six, students’ days off are determined by their last name:

• A-Cla – Off Mondays (virtual day)

• Cle-G – Off Tuesdays -(virtual day)

• H-Ma – Off Wednesdays (virtual day)

• Mc-Ri – Off Thursdays (virtual day)

• Ro-Z – Off Fridays (virtual day)

“With cases increasing substantially in Blair County in recent weeks, we based our decision on the recommendations of the Pennsylvania Department of Health,” Darren J. McLaurin, C-K superintendent, said.

McLaurin said the hybrid plan at both schools lowers their class size and allows them to social distance when students are in school.

The superintendent said the district will stay with the hybrid plan through November.

McLaurin said a decision will be made about December before the students leave for Thanksgiving break. The last day for students before the break begins will be Tuesday, Nov. 24. The break runs through Monday, Nov. 30.
